About Farewell
The canvas is divided into four large blocks of flat colour. A deep teal blue fills the upper right, softened by cloudy tonal shifts where the paint has been rubbed back. To its left runs a tall band of burgundy red that darkens to near black as it falls to the bottom edge. The lower right corner is a warm ochre orange with a sandy, grainy surface. Two small pale yellow squares interrupt the scheme, one floating in the red band, the other straddling the join between blue and ochre.
paint sits in thin, dry layers that let the weave of the canvas show through, giving each block a chalky, wall-like finish rather than a glossy one. Edges between colours are ruled straight but slightly feathered, and faint drop shadows fall beneath the yellow squares. The mood is calm and architectural, balanced between cool blue and hot ochre without either taking over.
Suits a living room with a plain white or pale grey wall, a hallway that needs a single colour accent, or a study above a timber desk. Pairs with tan leather, walnut furniture, brass lamps and charcoal linen. The portrait shape works well in a narrow space between a doorway and a bookcase.
