About Five Boats
Five small boats sit on still teal-green water in the foreground of a tight harbour. A red-hulled boat with a tall bare mast points toward the viewer at centre, flanked by a pale green dinghy and a red rowboat on the left and two white boats, one with a red cabin, on the right. Behind them a stone quay with steps rises into a stacked cluster of cream, ochre and white cottages with red and dark pitched roofs, small square windows and chimneys.
Above the rooftops the sky is worked in rust, olive and deep teal rather than blue, giving the scene a warm, dusk-like weight. Brushwork is loose and flat-edged, with buildings simplified into blocks of colour and reflections dragged in soft vertical strokes across the water.
Suits a dining room, hallway or living area with white or warm neutral walls, and works well in coastal and Mediterranean-style interiors. Pairs with timber furniture, rattan, terracotta pots and linen upholstery. The rust and teal palette picks up rugs and cushions in similar tones, and the landscape shape fits above a sideboard or long sofa. Browse more Mediterranean art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
