About Flower Burst in Gold I
A single oversized bloom fills the centre of this square composition, built from loose watercolour washes in gold, ochre and warm grey that bleed outward into flicked droplets and fine spatter. The heart of the flower is a pale metallic gold burst ringed by charcoal and slate-grey marks, with tiny dots scattered across the petals. A thin stem drops from the bloom toward the lower edge, where smaller half-formed buds and grass-like strokes rise in lighter gold against an otherwise plain white ground.
The character is light and unfussy: soft, bleeding edges and random spatter give it movement, while the restricted gold-and-grey palette keeps it calm rather than busy. It reads as botanical from a distance and purely abstract up close.
