About Flowers of France III
A square composition on a soft off-white ground, with a large violet-purple poppy opening across the upper left. Its five washed petals carry darker pooling at the edges and a fine black outline that slips in and out of the colour. The centre is a dense cluster of olive and grey stamens with tiny white dots. At the lower right a blush pink poppy rises into frame, its petals streaked with warm peach and a brown-green seed head. Grey stems and a folded pink bud fill the remaining space.
Behind the flowers, lines of looping French handwriting in black ink drift across the background, partly hidden by the petals. The character is light and airy: a watercolour study crossed with an old letter, restrained in colour and quietly decorative rather than bold.
Works in a bedroom above a bedside table, a ladies' powder room, or a home office with white or pale grey walls. The violet and blush pair with linen bedding, rattan, brushed nickel and light oak.
