About Flowers of France IV
A square composition holds two single blooms against a soft cream background. Top right, a magenta poppy-like flower opens wide, its petals washed in deep pink that fades to pale rose at the edges, with a ring of fine dotted stamens around a green centre. Lower left sits a paler flower in olive and chartreuse, its centre packed with small green and grey seed dots. Slim grey stems run down to the lower edge, and a curved bud on a stem crosses the top left corner.
Behind the flowers, lines of looping French handwriting run across the canvas in black ink, with the words bonjour and Marguerite legible among the faded strokes. The paper-like ground shows a subtle watercolour mottling, and the loose ink outlines around each petal sit slightly off the colour, giving a sketchbook feel. The mood is light and informal: a pressed-flower page with correspondence showing through, gentle in tone but anchored by the strong pink at the top.
Suits bedrooms, hallways and ladies' rooms with cream, white or pale grey walls, and works well in a home office above a desk. Pairs with linen bedding, French provincial timber, rattan and brass. Hang it as part of a set with the other Flowers of France prints for a balanced run along one wall. Browse more green art, multi-coloured art, or read Art above the bed: what size and how high.
