About Forest Campfire
The canvas is split vertically. On the right, a broad block of deep teal-blue is dragged downward in long, dry strokes that leave the weave of the canvas showing. On the left, pale grey and cream are cut through by a vertical band of hot yellow that thickens into orange and scarlet near its base. Where the two halves meet, a hard dark line runs like a horizon, and below it a low field of buttery yellow and white spreads across the lower right, scraped flat with a knife.
The foreground is built from slabs of charcoal, steel grey and off-white laid on thickly, with small flecks of orange on the left edge. Ridges of paint catch the light along the knife marks. It reads as glow against cold dark, the kind of contrast a fire makes at dusk, without describing anything literally.
Works above a charcoal or navy sofa in a living room, where the yellow band picks up brass lamps or tan leather. Suits a bedroom facing a pale grey wall, or a hallway that needs one point of warmth.
