About Glorious Moon
Three dark silhouetted figures stand on a red plain beneath a glowing gold moon and a scatter of small white stars. At left, a tall woman in a red skirt and black top wears a domed gold headpiece and a fan of pale feathers at her shoulder, one hand resting on the head of a child beside her. That child, in green trousers and a gold belt, raises an arm towards the sky. Further right, a smaller figure lifts both arms, arms flung wide against the red ground.
The background is built from bands of red and coral, with low ochre hills rolling across the middle distance and a curtain of combed gold lines down the left edge. Paint is applied in flat, lightly scumbled layers with fine incised linework in the gold. Warm, quiet and ceremonial, it reads as a night celebration rather than a portrait, with the moon as the clear focal point.
Suits a lounge or dining wall painted white, off-white or charcoal, where the red can carry the room. Works with timber furniture, woven baskets, terracotta pots and rust or olive textiles. Good above a sideboard or a low bookshelf, and strong enough to hang on its own in a hallway. Browse more red art, people and figures.
