A pedestal bowl in grey and white tones holds a heap of green and yellow apples. Seven or so apples are visible, some with short brown stems and dark green leaves poking out at the top, sides and over the rim at lower right. The bowl is decorated with scrolling leaf and flower engraving around its body and a ribbed stem.
The bowl sits inside a square border of grey beads and looped links drawn like carved moulding. Behind it the background is a soft, cloudy wash of cream, lilac-grey and pale yellow-green that looks like a faded plaster wall. The apples have smooth, glossy shading, while the bowl is rendered in fine grey linework. The medium feels like a painting with a visible canvas weave.
