About Ignite
A burst of colour opens across the centre of the canvas. Thick red strokes fan upward like petals or flames, edged with yellow and orange on both sides, while a pale white glow sits behind them. At the heart of the burst is a dark knot of black and grey, flicked over with small white, pink and yellow spatters that read as thrown paint. Thin red drips run down from the top edge into a soft grey-blue sky. The lower third turns cool, with sweeping blue and navy strokes and a flat red shape running left to right.
The painting is built with a palette knife, so the ridges of red and white stand off the surface and catch the light. It is a loud, energetic piece with a clear hot-to-cool contrast between the upper burst and the blue base.
Works above a long sofa in a neutral lounge room, or on a white wall in an open-plan dining space where it can be seen from a distance. Pairs with grey linen, pale timber and black metal fittings.
