About Indefinite
A pale cream rectangle sits slightly above centre, its surface scraped and combed so thin ridges of plaster-like texture catch the light. Behind it the canvas burns through deep scarlet, crimson and ochre, lifting to a band of yellow and orange across the upper third. A small round gold disc rests on the rectangle's top edge. Below, two mustard-yellow blocks carry scratched line work, and a narrow dark red column with a raised spine runs down the right side.
Near the base, three gilded seed shapes sit on a red patch, echoing the gold disc above. Fine trailing lines, incised curves and dry-brushed reds fill the surrounding field, with shadowed black-red corners keeping the edges dark. The overall effect is warm and architectural: heat and heavy texture held in check by a calm, geometric arrangement of pale and gold shapes.
Warm enough to anchor a neutral lounge room or a hallway with grey, stone or white walls. It suits dark timber furniture, leather seating and brass or copper fittings, and works well above a sideboard or fireplace. In a dining room the gold accents pick up candlelight and amber glassware.
