About Blush Blossoms
Hundreds of small four-petal blossoms crowd the lower two thirds of this landscape canvas, each one laid down in a few thick strokes of a palette knife so the petals stand off the surface in raised ridges. The flowers are blush pink and cream, with tiny dots of ochre at the centres. Towards the top they thin out and scatter into single buds and loose petals against a dark ground of near-black blue and charcoal, dragged on with broad knife marks that leave visible streaks and scraped edges.
The effect is a bank of blossom seen at night, dense and warm at the base, dissolving into darkness above. Light catches the ridged paint, so the picture shifts as you move past it.
Works above a bed with white or grey linen, in a hallway, or over a sideboard in a dining room. The black ground holds its own against dark timber and charcoal walls, while the blush petals suit soft pink, brass and cream furnishings. Side lighting brings out the raised petal edges.
