About Layered Art
Rectangular blocks of colour are stacked and overlapped across the canvas like a wall of panels. Rust orange and burnt red slabs sit at the centre, flanked by deep black-brown rectangles and olive green fields at the lower left and right. The upper third is a pale cream and grey ground scratched with faint lines and incised marks. A small slate blue square near the top carries a stamped, tile-like motif, and a pale arc sweeps from the lower left up through the orange centre.
Surfaces are heavily built up: combed ridges, scored lines, dragged glazes and gritty patches catch the light differently across each block. The character is architectural and quiet in structure, but warm and worked-over in feel, closer to a weathered wall than a tidy geometric design.
Suits a living room with warm timber floors, leather or tan furniture, and cream or clay walls. Works above a sideboard, in an entry hall, or in a meeting room where the rust and olive tones pick up rugs and cushions. Pairs with pottery, woven baskets and brass or bronze lighting.
