About Letters to Paul II
The composition is built from horizontal bands stacked from top to bottom: charcoal and slate at the top, a white and grey band, then several wide runs of mustard and pale yellow through the middle, followed by grey-blue, deep navy and ochre towards the base. Down the left side a narrow olive strip is ruled with short tick marks like a measuring tape, and beside it a column of cool grey-blue closes the edge. Thin white looping scribbles, circles and dashes drift across the yellow and grey bands.
The character is orderly but loose: straight ruled bands softened by uneven edges, dry patches of colour and handwritten marks that read like notes in a margin.
Suits a dining room wall, a hallway or a bedroom where a tall narrow space needs colour. The mustard and charcoal work with oak and walnut timber, black metal frames, grey linen and cream walls. Pairs well with a single dark-framed mirror or plain ceramic vases rather than other patterned pieces.
