About Life in Water
The canvas is divided vertically. Most of the field is blue, shifting from deep navy at the top edges to a lighter, chalky teal through the centre, with soft cloudy patches where the paint has been thinned and rubbed back. Down the right side runs a broad band of orange that warms into rust and deep red near the base, its edge blurred where it meets the blue rather than cut sharply. In the lower left sits a flat ochre rectangle with one notched corner, its surface mottled with paler flecks and a small spot of blue showing through.
Brushwork is soft and layered, built up in thin washes so the weave of the canvas reads through the colour. The character is quiet and balanced: two warm shapes anchoring a large, atmospheric blue field.
Suits a living room with white or pale grey walls, a bedroom above a low bedhead, or an entry hall where the vertical orange band draws the eye upward. Pairs with tan leather, timber furniture, woven rugs and terracotta pots. The blue field also works well in a bathroom or study with cool tiling.
