About London Tree
A square view down a London street, with the Elizabeth Tower and Big Ben's clock face standing in the left half of the frame, its spire pointing into a flat pale grey sky. The right side is filled with the tall stone facade of a classical building, receding sharply away from the viewer: engaged columns, deep window reveals, cornices and a carved entrance lamp. Colour has been pulled back to grey, taupe and pale brown everywhere except one plane tree at lower left, whose leaves stay vivid green.
The character is quiet and slightly cinematic. The grey city and the single green tree hold the whole square in balance, and the stonework carries plenty of fine surface detail across larger sizes.
Suits a home office, study or hallway where the grey tones sit well with black frames, steel shelving and timber desks. Works in a living room above a charcoal or tan sofa, and in a bedroom paired with linen in oatmeal or sage. Good as a single square over a console table.
