About Veiled Blue Eyes
The painting crops a woman's face to a narrow band across the middle: dark brows, heavy lashes and two clear blue irises set in greyscale skin. Above and below that band the face is covered by flat horizontal strokes of paint, so the head covering and lower veil read as blocks rather than cloth. Red dominates the lower half, broken by squares of yellow, turquoise, green and white, while the upper band mixes charcoal grey with a scatter of the same bright chips. The background fades to near-black at the corners.
Brushwork is blunt and deliberate, with thick knife-laid slabs sitting proud of the smoothly blended eyes. The contrast between soft realism and hard colour blocking gives the picture a graphic, arresting feel, and the blue eyes hold attention from across a room.
Suits a hallway, media room or bedroom where a single strong image can carry the wall. The red and turquoise blocks lift grey, charcoal or white paint, and the picture works with black metal furniture, concrete-look surfaces and leather seating.
