About Shopping Spree Frog
A red-eyed tree frog stands upright and face-on against a plain off-white ground, arms lowered and webbed orange-brown feet splayed flat at the bottom edge. Its body is built from overlapping dabs of olive, apple and sage green, with cooler blue-grey patches across the face and chest. Two large scarlet eyes with dark pupils sit high on the head. A narrow red band, tied in a small bow at the front, circles the hips like swim briefs.
In each hand the frog grips a cluster of shopping bags: a blue bag with purple flowers, a brown gingham carrier, a hot pink bag dotted with yellow and white confetti shapes, and a striped bag in coral, yellow and pale blue. Brushwork is flat and blocky, paint laid in short square strokes with visible edges. The artist's signature sits in the lower right corner. The character is comic and deadpan, a cartoon animal played straight.
Suits a hallway, walk-in robe, teenager's bedroom or a retail fitting room where a bit of humour works. The off-white background sits easily on white or pale grey walls, and the red and pink bags pick up cushions, rugs or a bright chair. Good beside other square animal pop art.
