About Rainbow Bloom on Zen Stones
Two smooth charcoal pebbles are stacked one on the other in the centre of a square canvas, the upper stone tilted slightly and casting a soft shadow to the right. Balanced on top is a daisy-like bloom whose petals fan out in magenta, lilac, lime, turquoise, orange and pale pink, with a dense orange and green centre worked in small raised dabs. A cluster of thick, glossy paint blobs in red, yellow and blue sits beneath the petals. The upper background is pale cream, the lower half flat grey, with a blurred reflection of the stones beneath.
Fine grey and white scumbling gives the stones their pitted granite surface, while the flower is built up in heavier strokes and beads of colour that catch the light. The character is playful and graphic: a quiet monochrome base carrying one burst of saturated colour.
Works in a bathroom, ensuite or treatment room where the grey stones suit tiles and stone benchtops, and in a white hallway or bedroom needing one point of colour. Pairs with pale timber, linen bedding and simple black-framed prints. The square format suits a narrow wall between doorways. Browse more floral art, multi-coloured art, square paintings.
