A large ocean liner fills the frame, seen from the bow at a slight angle. The dark hull rises from still water with a pale upper deck rail, and the name "MAURETANIA" is lettered along the side near the bow. An anchor sits in its hawse pipe. Masts, rigging lines and a bridge superstructure with rows of small windows crowd the top of the ship.
Behind the ship runs a faded sea chart, with fine rhumb lines fanning out from a compass rose at the right edge and small place names along the left. Two tall funnels with black tops and pale bands rise against it. The whole image is toned in sepia, cream and brown, with scratches and creases that give it an aged, worn paper look.
