About Vortex Dance
A wide spiral of paint turns around the canvas, moving from deep burnt orange and terracotta at the outer edges into warm ochre, then into a soft cream centre that reads almost as light. The brush has been dragged in long curved sweeps, so ridges of colour follow the circular movement and catch across the surface. Sitting over the pale middle are four slender black arcs, tapered at both ends, crossing near the lower centre like blades of grass or the ribs of a fan.
The effect is calm at the centre and restless at the edges, with the black lines giving the swirl a fixed point to turn around.
Works in a living room above a low timber sideboard, in an entry hall, or in a warm-toned dining space. The orange sits well with tan leather, rattan, brick and cream walls, and the black arcs pick up black frames, iron legs or dark joinery. Hang it on its own rather than in a group.
