About Copper & Stripe Study
The square canvas is divided into four unequal blocks. Top left is a slate grey field covered in a raised, cracked webbing of pale lines, like dried mud or stone crazing. A narrow cobalt blue band runs vertically beside it, separating it from a chalky cream panel scuffed with grey, which holds a small rust-orange rectangle marked with fine combed ripples. The lower right is a large copper-orange panel, mottled from deep brown at the edges to bright rust at its centre, with one small blue-grey rectangle set low.
The bottom left quarter carries diagonal stripes in gold ochre and dusty lavender, each band flecked and scraped so the underpaint shows through. A thin pale grey strip runs along the base. The character is quiet and architectural: the appeal is in the surface itself, where relief texture, scraping and dry-brushed colour do all the work rather than any image.
Suits a hallway, dining room or home office with warm timber, brick or concrete surfaces. The copper and ochre sit well with tan leather, rattan and terracotta pots, while the grey and cobalt keep it from feeling too warm. Works as a single square above a sideboard or low bookshelf.
