About Natural Forms Sepia I
Five specimens of frilled seaweed float across a deep sepia-brown ground, printed as pale cream silhouettes as though laid directly onto a light-sensitive plate. The fronds branch and ruffle at their edges, one trailing a long thin filament to the upper right. The background is unevenly mottled, with darker blooms, faint scratches and a soft ghost shape low in the centre, and the plate edge is visible as a lighter border with diagonal marks at the corners. A handwritten caption, Rhodomenia laciniata, sits near the base.
Its character is quiet and : a single specimen page from an old natural history record, warm brown rather than black, with the imperfections of the plate left in view.
Suits bathrooms, coastal bedrooms and beach house hallways where warm browns and creams already appear. Hang it above a timber console or linen bedhead, or pair it with the other sepia seaweed studies in a two or three print row. Works well with rattan, brass and pale limewashed walls.
