About New World Express
Rectangular blocks are stacked across the canvas in ochre, sand and cream, their surfaces scraped and troweled so the texture reads like weathered plaster. A band of gold leaf sits on the upper left field, catching light against the dull cream beside it. To the right a slate-blue column runs from the top edge and meets a broad panel of oxblood red and charcoal that fills the lower third. A smaller tan square glows near the centre right.
A black bracket shape, low and left of centre, encloses a second patch of gold leaf. Thin black lines drift up from the dark base like dry reeds, with one curved red stroke crossing them. The painting is quiet and architectural, built from flat planes and grit rather than gesture, with the two gold passages doing all the shining.
Suits a lounge room or entry with warm timber floors, leather or tan upholstery and cream walls. The oxblood base anchors it above a sideboard or a low bookshelf, and the gold leaf lifts under a picture light or downlight. Pairs with brass lamps, linen cushions and dark-stained furniture.
