A large ocean liner fills the lower half of the image, seen from the bow at a slight angle. The dark hull carries partly legible lettering that begins "QUEEN" near the bow. Pale superstructure decks rise above it, topped by two wide funnels with dark bands. A small tug sits at the stern end beside the hull, and the water in front is rippled and dark.
Strings of signal flags run from the tall mast down to the bow and stern. Behind the ship, a faded sea chart fills the sky, with fine rhumb lines fanning out and a compass rose near the top centre. The whole image is toned in sepia and cream, with blotchy stains and creases that give it an aged, weathered paper look.
