About Painterly Variations I
A tall vertical panel filled with poured, marbled colour that drifts from the upper left to the lower right. Ribbons of cream and ivory cut through bands of sage green, olive, sand and pale grey, with thin threads of dusty pink and rust tracing the edges of each curve. Near the centre the flow folds over itself into a soft wedge shape with a darker charcoal core. Below, the colour combs downward in fine vertical striations that fade to white at the base.
The character is calm and fluid, closer to cut stone or agate than to any recognisable scene. The surface reads smooth and glassy, with feathered edges where one colour has drawn into the next.
The narrow vertical shape suits a hallway end wall, a space beside a doorway, an ensuite or a bedroom chimney breast. The cream and sage palette sits easily with oak or rattan furniture, linen bedding, travertine and brushed brass tapware, and works well as one of a pair flanking a mirror or bedhead.
