A single fan palm frond enters from the upper right and spreads its narrow blades left and down across the picture, like an open hand. The leaflets are cut to sharp points, some drooping below the centre, and range from near-black forest green through mid-leaf green to pale olive, with chalky white streaks running along their length. Behind them the background is a flat aqua turquoise, lightly streaked with brighter and deeper blue so it reads as sky or painted wall. A second cluster of blades appears at the lower right corner.
