About Pattern
Three horizontal bands sit inside a wide border of mottled rust and near-black brown. The top band is burnt orange, scratched through with looping scroll and dot motifs that read like carved metalwork. Below it, separated by a dark brown stripe, a second orange band carries a continuous chain of interlocking oval links. The lowest band shifts to pale grey-blue, combed into close, even ripples that run the full width. Thin cream-gold lines cross near the outer edges, forming a loose bracket around the whole arrangement.
The paint is built up and worked back, so the surface holds the incised lines and the ridged waves as real relief rather than drawn detail. Its character is quiet and deliberate: warm rust and orange held in check by one cool blue band.
Works in rooms with timber, leather or terracotta: a dining room sideboard wall, a hallway above a hall table, or a lounge behind a tan sofa. The rust border sits well against white, putty or charcoal walls, and the pale blue band picks up grey linen, pewter lamps and stone-coloured rugs.
