About Perfect Form
A single dancer is shown from behind, cropped at the hips, her head turned slightly to the left and her dark curled hair painted as a dense knot of ink blue. Both arms reach outward, the left hand dropping low and the right resting near the waist, drawn with thin pencil-like lines and pale washes that leave the forearms almost bare canvas. The bodice is the darkest passage in the work, a wet pool of blue-black that runs downward in drips into a loose grey skirt.
The background is built from broad translucent washes of dusty pink, cream and soft taupe, with a few charcoal strokes and wandering contour lines at the right edge and a small signature in brown. Its character is quiet and unfinished on purpose: the figure holds the pose while the paint around her is still moving, so the movement is suggested rather than spelled out.
Suits a bedroom above a low bedhead, a dressing room, or a hallway where the pale washes keep the wall feeling open. It works with grey linen, pale oak and brushed silver frames, and sits comfortably beside dusty pink cushions, a ballet or music room, or a dance school reception.
