This square image is filled edge to edge with overlapping feathers in a watercolour style. Rounded and oval vanes sit tightly against one another, each with a pale central shaft running down the middle. Some are spotted with small dark dots or white flecks, others carry bars and stripes, such as the dark banded feather near the top left.
The colours shift from feather to feather. Teal and turquoise caps with a dark band sit beside violet and lilac plumes, while a tall red and orange feather with black markings stands out near the centre. Soft washes, pooled pigment and fine barb lines give the surface a layered, slightly mottled texture with no empty background.
