A row of tall, slender trees runs left to right along the bank of a canal, their trunks glowing orange-brown where low sun hits them. The leaves above are dabbed in short, visible strokes of olive green, yellow and pale blue, so the canopy looks like it is flickering. The image reads as an impressionist-style painting, with thick, directional brushwork.
Behind the trunks a strip of golden grass leads to rounded dark green trees and a hazy band of peach and lilac sky. The water in the foreground mirrors the trunks as wavering vertical streaks over pale blue and grey, with green and ochre patches along the bottom edge. Warm light and cool water sit in balance across the whole scene.
