About Poppy Meadow I
A square composition looks up from low in a summer meadow. Roughly twenty scarlet poppies rise on slender stems, their cupped petals turned at different angles so some show dark central eyes and others are seen edge-on as thin curved shapes. Behind them sit white umbels of cow parsley, pale gold seedheads and soft lilac-grey grasses, loosely suggested rather than drawn in detail. The upper half is clear blue sky, deepest at the top corners and lightening to a hazy near-white just above the flower line.
The mood is bright and open, with the low viewpoint making ordinary field flowers feel tall. Soft edges in the background keep attention on the crisp red petals in front.
Suits a living room above a low sideboard, a sunny kitchen or dining wall, a bedroom over the bedhead, or a home office needing colour.
