About Preparation
A standing female figure is seen from behind, cropped at mid-thigh and just below the raised right arm, set slightly left of centre. Her skin is built from warm pinks, cream and pale ochre, with soft shadow down the spine and beneath the hips. Dark hair is gathered high on the head and flecked with gold and olive, a loose strand falling past the shoulder. Around her the background is scraped and dragged in broad palette-knife slabs of chalky white, rust red, apricot and grey-green.
The figure's edges dissolve into the surrounding paint, so the body reads as form emerging from texture rather than a sharply drawn outline. The mood is quiet and private, warm rather than cool, with the thick background strokes giving the canvas an almost weathered, plastered surface.
Suits a main bedroom, ensuite or dressing room where warm neutrals already dominate. It works above a timber chest of drawers or beside a freestanding bath, and pairs with linen bedding, brass or aged-gold fittings and terracotta tones. The rust and cream background sits comfortably against limewash, sandstone or off-white walls. Browse more nude art, women in art, brown and earthy art.
