A black and white photograph of a timber dock running out into a calm lake. The planks and square posts cut a strong diagonal from the lower left, and a second, lower jetty sits behind it on the left. Reeds rise beside the nearest dock, and a small roofed shelter stands on the grassy bank in the distance.
Heavy clouds fill the upper half of the frame, thinning to a bright band near the horizon where the sun is rising behind a low, dark line of trees. Soft ripples catch that light across the water. In the foreground, lily pads and thin stems float on the glassy surface, with the dock reflected beneath. The square format and grey tones give it a quiet, still mood.
