About Red Poppy Flowers
A dense band of red poppies fills the lower third of the image, the blooms painted as loose scarlet discs with dark plum centres and thin, leaning stems that cross one another. Behind them the field dissolves into a haze of rose, mauve and lilac, then rises into low blue-grey hills. The upper half is sky: streaks of cloud in slate blue, soft green and grey drifting across a warm cream and pale gold glow near the horizon line.
The edges of every flower are blurred, as though seen through mist or watery light, so the red reads as warmth rather than sharp detail. It is a quiet, atmospheric landscape with one strong colour note carrying the whole picture.
Suits a living room above a linen or grey sofa, a bedroom over the bedhead, or a home office wall that needs warmth. The red works with cream, oatmeal and soft grey walls, timber furniture and rattan. Pairs well with pale ceramics, fresh greenery and other watercolour landscapes in a relaxed coastal or country interior.
