About Red Solo II
A single mass of deep crimson fills the upper right corner, shaped like one continuous canopy with a softly scalloped edge where it meets the pale cream sky. Below it, seven or eight very slender trunks in copper and tan rise from a dark base, crossing and splitting into fine branches that disappear into the red. The background moves in horizontal bands: cream at the top, a thin stripe of pale turquoise, then olive and yellow-green, closing with a broad band of near-black brown along the bottom edge.
Small turquoise dots sit in a row along the green band, like water or fallen light, and a streak of dull red runs through the dark ground. The surface shows fine cracked texture within the red canopy and dry, streaked layers across the horizon bands. The mood is quiet and graphic, with the weight of the red canopy balanced against wide, empty sky.
Suits a lounge room or dining room wall where a single strong colour is wanted against neutral paint. The cream and olive bands sit well with oak, rattan and linen, while the crimson picks up rust cushions or a burgundy rug. Also works in a bedroom above a bedhead or in a hallway as a square focal point. Browse more contemporary art, blue art, or read Art above the bed: what size and how high.
