About Refractions
A young figure stands in a swimming pool, seen from above and behind, arms stretched out sideways just above the surface. She wears a dark cobalt swimsuit and a purple-blue swim cap, with pale cream highlights running along her shoulders and forearms where light catches wet skin. Below the waterline her legs dissolve into wavering ribbons of lilac, pink and white. The surrounding water is built from short, loaded strokes of cornflower and periwinkle blue, scattered with flecks of cream and warm ochre that read as broken reflections.
The whole surface is worked in visible directional strokes, so the water never sits flat, and the pool edge appears as a pale band along the bottom. Colour shifts from deep blue at the top to cooler mauve and near-white at the base, pulling the eye downward through the distortion. It is a quiet, playful image about how water bends a body, warm in feeling without being sentimental.
Suits a beach house hallway, a bathroom or ensuite, a child's bedroom or a family living room with white or pale grey walls. It works beside timber furniture, rattan and linen in soft blues and creams. Hang it near a window where daylight reinforces the watery blues, or group it with smaller coastal prints.
