About Seashells I
Four shells are scattered across a broad field of warm cream and sand-beige. At upper left a large lilac-grey shell lies on its side, its ridges suggested by short pale strokes and a dark shadow line beneath. Centre right, a round moon shell is seen face on, its spiral winding inward to a small mauve centre. Lower left a white conch tips forward, its opening shaded in grey. A tiny fourth shell sits between them, barely more than a few marks.
The surface is worked in thick, visible strokes, with flecks of teal, yellow and soft green breaking the sandy background. Edges are left rough and unfinished, so the shells read as shapes and light rather than detail. The overall character is quiet and sun-bleached, closer to a memory of a beach than a literal study.
Suits bathrooms, coastal bedrooms and beach house hallways where the palette is already cream, sand or pale timber. Sits well above a white vanity, a linen bedhead or a rattan console. Pairs with woven baskets, dried grasses and soft grey or lilac bed linen, and works as a single square above a low sideboard.
