A small brown sparrow sits on a long, arching bramble branch, its feathers slightly fluffed and its head turned to the side. The branch curves from the lower left across to the right edge, and its dark, purplish stem is lined with sharp thorns. The bird sits just above centre.
The background is a soft, blurred green that lets the sparrow stand out. Around the branch are unripe blackberries, dried brown flower heads, a few small white buds and one white blossom, along with broad green leaves along the bottom edge. This is a photograph in muted greens and earthy browns.
