About Golden Ballerina
A single ballerina fills the square canvas, seen from behind and slightly above, her head tilted down and one arm folded across her back. Her body is laid in with thick metallic silver and gold paint that catches light along the shoulder blades, spine and bare legs. The tutu spreads outward in long fanned strokes of cream, warm brown and grey, pulled from the waist to the edges of the canvas so the skirt merges with the background. Thin white drips run down the left side over a patch of deep gold.
Faint handwritten script in brown sits across the middle and right of the canvas, like writing on an old letter showing through. The overall feel is quiet and worn, more a sense of movement and light than a portrait of a particular dancer.
Suits a bedroom above a bed head, a dressing area, a hallway or a girl's room. The gold and silver tones work with warm timber, brass lamps, linen bedding and cream or soft grey walls.
