About Ember Dial
A square canvas built around a broad arc that sweeps from the upper right down to the lower left, painted in scraped silver-white over a ground of rust red, burnt orange and ochre. Stencilled black characters run along the curve, reading as fragments such as 574, STU, 57, SS and 12, with softer ghosted lettering like KES and XLLYNGH set into the corners. A small raised disc, ribbed with fine horizontal lines and finished in silver, sits to the right of centre.
Diagonal white scratch marks cut across the red band beneath it, and the whole surface carries thick, trowelled texture with visible grit and cracked edges. The character is salvage-yard signage rather than pure abstraction, warm in colour but hard-edged in its markings.
Suits a living room with exposed brick, concrete or dark timber, and works over a leather sofa or a steel-legged sideboard. The rust and ochre tones sit well with tan leather, charcoal wool and blackened metal. Also effective in an entry hall or a home office where a single warm square is enough.
