A still canal runs from the lower right into the distance, bordered on both sides by a row of tall, mottled tree trunks. A large trunk fills the left edge with patches of cream, grey and brown bark. Green grass slopes down to the water in the foreground, and a few pale stones sit at the bank.
Low sunlight turns the leaf canopy gold, orange and lime green, and the same warm colours break up across the water in vertical streaks. Darker green and near-black reflections gather in the lower right. Blue hills sit faintly at the far end of the canal. The brushwork is loose and visible, in an impressionist style.
