About Tainted Falls
A tall abstract in warm earth colours. Across the upper third a bright band of white and pale orange reads as a horizon, broken by a dark smudge at the right edge. Below it a pale grey-green form tips over a ledge and falls in a cream and white streak through the centre, flanked by broad sweeps of burnt orange and rust on the right and softer brown and mauve washes on the left. The ground behind is a dry olive-yellow, thinly brushed so the weave shows.
Brushwork is loose and wiped rather than heavily loaded, with dragged edges, a few dark linear flicks near the lower left and small spatters through the orange. The character is quiet and dry, closer to a sunlit gorge remembered than described.
Suits a lounge room or entry with white, limewash or warm grey walls, and works above a sideboard or a low linen sofa. The ochre and rust sit well with oak, rattan, terracotta pots and leather. In a bedroom, hang it above the bedhead with cream bedding and brass or black lamps. Browse more the Statton Collection, abstract oil paintings, earthy tones.
