About Terra Firma I
A square abstract built entirely from horizontal bands that run edge to edge like strata of sand, shallow water and low cloud. A thick black streak sits across the top quarter, softened by a wash of pale aqua beneath it. Below that the bands alternate: burnt orange and rust ochre, chalky cream, sage green and pockets of deep teal. The lower third carries the heaviest rust band, broken by short dark scratches, and the base finishes in a broad pale yellow-green strip.
The surface reads as scraped and layered, with dry edges where one colour drags over another and thin lines of underpainting showing through. The overall character is calm and grounded, with just enough rust and black to keep it from feeling soft.
Square format suits a chimney breast, a hallway end wall or above a low sideboard. The teal, rust and sage sit well with timber furniture, rattan, linen in oatmeal and terracotta pots. Works in beach house living rooms, bedrooms with natural bedheads, and bathrooms with stone or concrete finishes.
