About Terrace
A sunlit courtyard fills the canvas, built from flat blocks of ochre-yellow wall, a terracotta-red arch outlined in bright pink, and a tall plank door painted deep indigo. A folding timber deck chair with pale canvas sling stands on the pale green paving in front of the door, casting a short shadow. At the left, a large blue-grey urn holds a trailing green shrub, and three small pots of red and pink flowers sit on a low ledge above the yellow wall.
Paint is laid on thickly with a knife, leaving ridges across the walls and paving so the light appears to catch the surface. The mood is quiet and still, a midday corner with nobody in it, carried by strong colour contrast rather than detail.
Works in a kitchen, dining room or hallway where warm yellows and terracotta pick up timber furniture and terracotta tiles. It sits well against white or pale grey walls, near rattan chairs, linen cushions or indoor plants, and suits sunrooms, holiday houses and courtyard-facing living spaces.
