About Big Ben at Night
The Elizabeth Tower rises through the centre of a portrait frame against a deep cobalt sky, its stonework washed warm amber by floodlights. The illuminated clock face sits near the top, white and clearly legible, with a second face turned away to the left and a band of green and gold detail under the spire. Below, a long exposure has smeared a passing bus into horizontal ribbons of red and yellow that cut across the lower third, while headlights and tail lights on the road at left blur into streaks.
The mood is quiet and urban at once: a solid, still landmark held above a road that has dissolved into moving light. Contrast is strong, with dark silhouetted rooftops and a wet-looking carriageway anchoring the base of the image.
Suits a living room, home office or hallway where a tall narrow wall needs a focal point. The deep blue reads well against white, grey or navy paint, and the amber tower picks up timber furniture, leather and brass lamps.
