About The Gypsy
A stylised woman fills the upper half of the canvas, her face split down the centre into two flat planes: deep red on the left, warm gold on the right. The eyes are drawn as narrow blue almond shapes, the nose as a single curved line, and the mouth as a small pointed diamond outlined in dark red. A cobalt blue curl spirals beside her temple, and broad bands of blue, crimson, olive and gold sweep behind her like fabric or wind. Her torso is soft pink, her sleeve striped in red, blue and yellow.
The paint sits in smooth, even layers with visible directional brushwork along each ribbon of colour, so the background reads as a series of curved sweeps rather than a setting. The mood is calm and inward, with strong colour contrast carrying all the drama.
Works in a lounge room or hallway with plain white or grey walls, where the cobalt and crimson can carry the space on their own. Pairs with mid-century timber furniture, a rust or navy armchair, and simple black shelving. Also suits a boutique reception area or a bedroom wall above a low dresser.
