About The Village
Houses climb the canvas in tight tiers, their walls painted in charcoal, mid grey and chalky off-white so pale facades push forward against darker neighbours. Pitched and hipped roofs overlap at slightly different angles, each one ruled in with a long flat stroke that leaves a ridge of thicker paint along the apex. Small square windows are marked with quick dark rectangles, a few softened by white smudges suggesting shutters, sills or washing. Above the rooftops a narrow band of grey sky is scraped horizontally, lighter towards the right.
Restrained and architectural, it reads as a hill town reduced to blocks of light and shadow. The mood is quiet and graphic rather than picturesque.
Works well in a hallway, home office or living room with concrete, timber or pale plaster walls. The grey and off-white range sits easily with black metal frames, linen sofas and monochrome photography. Use a larger size above a low sideboard, or hang it opposite a window where side light picks up the ridged roof lines. Browse more Mediterranean art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
