About Walking Through Gold

Two rows of slender trees frame a pale path that runs up the centre of the composition and fades into mist at the horizon. The canopy is built from small dabs of gold, ochre, olive and rust, with occasional flecks of pink, lilac and turquoise scattered among the leaves. Between the branches the sky reads as washed pale blue and soft grey. Trunks are drawn in thin lines of russet brown and grey-green, growing fainter and cooler as they recede into the distance.

Along the lower edge, clumps of bright yellow undergrowth flare on either side of the track, with a thin streak of deep red in the wet path below. The surface shows loose, layered marks and soft-edged colour that reproduce clearly on canvas.
