About Variation for Violin III
Three violins stand side by side across a square canvas, their long necks and pegboxes drawn in heavy black that runs down the surface in thin drips. The central instrument is the boldest, its body split between orange, red and a wedge of blue, with white dots scattered over the lower bout. The violin on the left is cut into pink, turquoise and deep blue shapes, while the one on the right fades from yellow into lime and green. Black f-holes and pale string lines cross each body.
The background is a wash of soft cream, mint and lilac with faint looping outlines of further instruments behind, so the three figures read almost as a chorus. Colour is applied in flat blocks that overlap rather than follow the true outline of each violin, and splatters of white and black break the edges. The effect is energetic and graphic, more about rhythm and colour than accurate musical drawing, with a small signature at the lower left.
Suits a music room, a teenager's bedroom or a kids' playroom where bright colour is welcome. It works over a piano, a desk or a low bookshelf, and holds its own on a plain white or pale grey wall. Pair it with other colourful square prints, timber furniture and simple black frames elsewhere in the room.
