About Majestic Mosaic Stag
A stag faces forward against a plain pale grey ground, its wide antlers sweeping up and out to fill the top two thirds of the canvas. The beams and tines are painted in streaks of rust, cream, teal and ochre, with small dabs of green along the inner edges. The head is dark red-brown, broken up by squares and blobs of yellow, blue, green, white and pale pink that sit across the brow, cheek and muzzle like inlaid tiles. The chest dissolves into loose drips and smears.
Colour is applied thickly with a knife in places, so the blocks stand proud of the flat background and catch the light. The effect is a bold, graphic animal portrait rather than a wildlife study.
Works well above a sideboard in an entry hall, in a dining room with timber furniture, or in a teenager's room. The pale grey background suits white or light plaster walls, and the confetti-bright blocks pair with plain linen upholstery, black metal shelving and a single brass lamp.
